The IBWDBC's mission is to grow the sport of Dragon Boating while enhancing and promoting physical activity and healthy living at any age.
In 2015 the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Club, in conjunction with the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Foundation, formed an official IBWDB Recreational Crew. This crew traveled to other festivals to race, learn, fundraise, and promote our area and festival. Due to overwhelming interest and support from the Rainy River District and Koochiching County, in 2016 the club formed a second crew to accommodate more skilled members. 2017 will see the addition of a Junior A team that will encourage young paddlers ages 12 to 17 to get fit and have fun on the water - for life!
Each year our team members assist with the IBWDB Annual Dragon Boat Festival, fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society Breast Cancer cause and promote the Foundation's mission to promote an active lifestyle at any age.
During the summer months, coaches and team members provide a free weekly paddle open to the public (ages 12+) at 6:00 pm at the Sorting Gap Marina in Fort Frances, ON on Tuesdays. No experience is necessary, and we provide instruction, paddles and life jackets.
During the off-season, our certified coaches and crew members host a free weekly poolside paddle and swim lessons (ages 12+) at the International Falls High School Pool in International Falls, MN at 6:30 pm on Thursdays. The only cost is the $2 pool use fee charged by the facility. Our coaches also host a free backwoods ski in Ray, MN on Saturdays at noon throughout the ski season that is free of charge, however participants must have their own equipment.
